We’ve talked a lot on this little blog of ours about the benefits of the services that we provide here. Lord knows, more than once, we’ve still gotten the exact question listed above from a potential client.
If you’ve read many of our blogs nothing here is going to be new to you. The reasons that many businesses are switching away from analog services and equipment rooms full of gear may not be numerous, but they are important.
Here’s what we tell people when they ask us why they should switch:
At the end of the day, it’s always going to come down to the bottom line. Have you priced out phone equipment lately? I gotta tell you, it’s getting ridiculous. Even a basic setup for a small business can easily run into the thousands of dollars. Then you have to be responsible for said equipment. Better hope the IT guy is fairly healthy. Because it inevitably breaks down the second the poor man is out with the flu.
The level of scalability of your communications is a key factor in the growth of any company. Traditional systems are clunky as hell, and don’t move around well. Hosted systems on the other hand, are as nimble as… well, nimble… things. You can add lines easily as you hire more people, and in some cases, even get free phones if you’re going in for a longer term service. Another thing that many business owners figure out when they switch to a hosted system is that features can be added on or taken off at will, something that’s never been easy for traditional phone systems, even on the best of days.
Generally speaking, Hosted systems refer their tech support and IT management to outside agencies. This presents a distinct advantage to the small business owner in the form of cost savings, specifically in the IT department. Not to mention, many of these companies provide roundtheclock support, something “Greg in IT” can’t match. He’s out the door at 5 every day like his hair's on fire. This list is by no means exhaustive, but it covers the main reasons that many of the businesses of today are switching from a more traditional system into a more nimble yet robust hosted solution.
The best thing you can do is reach out to a provider, let them know what your goals are, and have them give you an idea of what sort of solution he could come up with for you. We can almost guarantee that they’ll save you some money, and show you a better way. After all, there’s probably a better use for that equipment room. The staff has been bugging you for months for a break room, right? Maybe with all that money you could save, you could get them a cappuccino machine! Or a Black and Decker.
