If you’re one of the 1.2 million small-to-medium-sized businesses in Canada and the US, then chances are, at some point, you’ve either already had to move into a different office, or you are on your way to doing just that.
We get it. We really do. Moving offices can be compared to defusing bombs blindfolded much of the time, and with good reason. Between moving the furniture, hooking up utilities, and trying to do it all over a weekend so there’s no measurable interruption in productivity the process of getting a new office can be downright stressful.
Hooking up the phones, while it might fall a few ticks down that comically long list of “todo’s”, is an important part of the move. Business phone systems are one of the main players in the game of productivity vs. cost, and if they’re not ready to go when the move is done, you are losing money right out of the gate. Thankfully, mercifully, if you happen to be one of the lucky business owners with VoIP phone systems, this is relatively simple
Oh, you want benefits? Write these down….
While only a few of you remember what it was like to try and retain your number when moving offices, those that do know that, at best, it was monstrously difficult, and at worst, just not possible. Say goodbye to all those marketing materials with the old number on them, and would somebody get the yellow pages on the phone, already?! With VoIP, this is a thing of the past. Many Hosted PBX providers will make it easy to take your existing number with you to your new location. No muss, no fuss. Just a seamless transition to your new location. Your most loyal customers will not even know the difference.
This may seem like a bit of a stretch, but those of you out there that have lost good employees to a move know what we’re talking about. For some employees, it’s simply easier to resign than to make the transition to a new office that’s miles from the current location. It’s not a fun scenario. However, with VoIP, those awesome employees can actually become your road warriors! With features like Find Me/Follow Me, videoconferencing, and virtual extensions, those same talented employees that don’t wish to drive to the new locations can telecommute easily, as long as they have a reliable internet connection.
Just the word is painful to allow across your lips. But simply put, by being able to “port” your number to the new location easily, and not have to wait for technicians to come and install a new phone system for you, you save time. And time is money. And money is delicious. Moving into a new office is an important and sometimes terrifying step for a business. But your business phone systems don’t have to be another rock in the running track. With VoIP, this aspect of the move becomes, dare I say it, easy.
